There are over 100 million blogs all over the world, and the blogosphere is growing. Here are a few tips on how to let your blog stand out. Follow them to attract traffic to your blog.

1. Write often and well

Updating your blog often with useful, informative, and captivating content is the first important step in building up your traffic. It is your content that keeps your readers coming back for more. Thus, make sure that your content is well-written; readers wouldn’t want to read entries that are filled with misspelled words, grammatical errors, and unclear phrases. Furthermore, frequent posting of articles attracts search engine spiders to your blog.

2. Submit your blog to search engines.

Notify search engines of the existence of your blog by providing them a link to your blog so that spiders will crawl and index it. Most search engines have a “submit link” function.

3. Update and use your blogroll.

Add links to sites you like in your blogroll. Owners of those sites will appreciate it and will add a reciprocal link to their own blogrolls.

4. Do not take comments for granted.

Posting comments is essential to increase your blog’s traffic. There are two ways to comment. First, respond to comments that readers leave on your posts; this interaction shows them that you value their comments. Second, leave meaningful comments on other people’s blogs. Make sure that you create a link at the signature space in your comment. If they like your comment, there is a big chance they will click on the backlink that you have provided.

5. Set up an RSS feed.

Have your blog syndicated by your loyal readers through an RSS feed. This makes it easy for your readers to keep track of new content that you publish in your blog.

6. Don’t forget backlinks.

Backlinks allow people to easily navigate to your blog. In addition, search engines use links to index your blog.

7. Add tags.

Take the effort to tag your post with high-traffic keywords and key phrases. Just like links, search engines easily notice tags. They also help readers find your blog when they perform searches.

8. Share to social bookmarking sites.

Share your blog to submit your posts to StumbleUpon, Reddit, Digg, Delicious, and other social bookmarking sites.

9.  Optimize your site by using strategic keywords and key phrases.

Your posts should contain relevant keywords and phrases for search pages to find them. Just be careful not to overload your posts with them or else your blog may be considered as spam. If a search engine considers your blog as spam, it may be removed from its search results page.

10. Utilize images.

Pictures tell a thousand words. Images makes your blog look good, explain your point clearer, and help people find you in search engine listings; people often use image search options. Don’t forget to place captions on your images, injecting them with relevant keywords and key phrases.

11. Open your mind to guest blogging.

Guest blogging happens when you write a guest post on someone else’s blog or when another blogger writes an entry on your blog. Guest blogging exposes your blog to the other blogger’s audience. If they are interested, they will visit your blog to check it out.

12. Join online groups, forums, Web rings, and social media.

Sharing your ideas in these sites can attract like-minded individuals to your blog. Don’t forget to add a link to your blog in your signature line or profile.

13. Do not limit yourself in the blogosphere.

Add your blog’s URL to your business cards and e-mail signature. Inform your friends of your blog. Print it on your letterhead.

Good luck and ride high in the blogosphere.
